Traditional Funeral Services

We are pleased to offer both Traditional Funeral Services as well as Cremation Services.

You may ask "What is a Traditional Funeral Service?"  A traditional funeral service is one with the deceased present.  There normally is a time anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours (or longer) that family, friends and colleagues are welcome to attend the place of service and view the deceased and extend their condolences to the family.   The viewing may be held in the funeral home, church or other location (in accordance with necessary permissions)

In our area of Pennsylvania you may see the word Visitation or Viewing.  A visitation means that the deceased is present, but the Casket will be closed.  A Viewing, means that the deceased is present and the casket is open.  These two terms are used interchangeably in other areas of the state/country.

After the visitation/viewing has completed, the next step is the funeral service or Mass of Christian Burial.  Again, the actual funeral service can be held in the funeral home, church or other location (in accordance with necessary permissions).  Everyone that is staying for the service is invited to be seated and in normal circumstances, a member of the clergy will lead the services.  Members of the family may participate as well with readings, poems, verses, music and tributes.

When there is a Mass of Christian Burial, this will be held in a church.  The viewing may be held at the funeral home and then everyone will process to the church for Mass.

At the conclusion of the funeral service or Mass of Christian Burial, everyone will be asked to proceed to their vehicles and will drive in procession to the cemetery for burial.  The Clergy will accompany and there will be a final committal at the grave which can also be accompanied by music, readings, verses and poems.

In most circumstances, after the graveside committal, family and friends are invited to a luncheon of the family's choosing.
