Dorothy Kocevar Burd, 76, of Lower Paxton Township, died Wednesday, June 18, 2008 in Harrisburg Hospital. Dorothy was the first female Rural Letter Carrier for the US Post Office in Harrisburg and upon her retirement continued with the operation of the family business, “Kocevar’s Produce and Flowers” at the Broad Street Market, where they have been in business for 74 years. She was a former member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, Steelton and a member of Prince of Peace Roman Catholic Parish and the Rural Letter Carriers Assn. Dorothy was the daughter of the late Frank N. and Mary M. Rajk Kocevar and the widow of Wilbur F. Burd, Jr. She is survived by one daughter, Shelly Ann Burd, at home; one sister, Margaret F. Kocevar of Lower Paxton Twp.; two brothers, Frank C. Kocevar of Hummelstown and Robert A. Kocevar of Springfield, MO. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Storm. Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated on Saturday, June 21, 2008 at 11:00 am in Prince of Peace-Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church with Rev. James M. Lyons, her pastor and Rev. William J. Waltersheid, as concelebrants. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Saturday from 9:00 until 10:30 am in Wiedeman Funeral Home, 357 S. Second St., Steelton. Memorial contributions
