Donald F. Saytar, 67, of Chambers Hill Road, Swatara Twp., passed away, Monday, May 5, 2008 in Harrisburg Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was a retired machine operator for the Steelton-Highspire Railroad and a retired clerk at PSECU and a peacetime veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a member of the former St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Parish and a member of Prince of Peace Roman Catholic Parish, an officer and musician for several years of the St. Lawrence Adult Tamburitiza Orchestra. He also served as an assistant for the St. Lawrence Jr. Tammies for many years. He was also a member of St. Lawrence Lodge 13, Croatian Fraternal Union, St. Mary’s Catholic Club, St. Aloysius Club, Steelton Italian Club, VFW Post 710, American Legion Post 594, Deutscher Quartet Club, Bressler Club and Serbian American Civic and Education Club. Don played his Bugarija and sang in several bands through the years. They include, The Steeltones, The Danube Seranaders, The Happy Five, Sajtari Becari, The Polka Quads, The Polka Quads + 1, Polka Plus, Seranade, Jorgovani. His love of music was evident throughout the years. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Frances Gornik Saytar and his brother, Nick Saytar. He is survived by his son, Danilo G. Saytar, Harrisburg; his twin brother, Richard N. Saytar and his wife, Ruth, Enola; three sisters, Fran Radosevich and her husband Val, Palmyra, Rose Marinak and her husband Bob, Ocala, FL and Cathy Lebo, Middletown; several nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 9, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in Prince of Peace – Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, with the Rev. James M. Lyons, his pastor, as celebrant. Burial in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with full military honors. A viewing will be held on Thursday from 6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. in the Wiedeman Funeral Home, 357 South Second Street, Steelton. Recitation of the Rosary, 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Prince of Peace Parish, 815 South Second Street, Steelton, PA 17113. |
