Eugene L. Duke, 86, of Steelton, died Sunday, November 26, 2017 in the VA Medical Center, Pennsylvania.
He was born March 19, 1931 in Harrisburg, to the late Albert Duke and Maybell Bretz Duke.
After school, Eugene enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the 25th Infantry Division, 27th Infantry Regiment nicknamed the 'Wolfhounds'. Eugene was an Army veteran of the Korean War where he received 2 Purple Hearts. After his military service, he returned home to Steelton. Eugene worked for the Olmsted Air Force Base, located near the Harrisburg International Airport.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Eugene Duke Jr., and Craig Duke; four sisters, Ann Gesualdo, Sophronia Kerns, Violet Smith, and Joyce Nicholson. Eugene is survived by one son, Michael S. Duke, of Harrisburg; one daughter, Gina Shull of Duncannon; and a brother, Franklin Duke of Enola, several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at 1:00 pm in the Wiedeman Funeral Home, 357 South Second Street, Steelton. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, with Full Military Honors. A viewing will be held from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm in the funeral home.
