Janet Hobaugh Weiss passed away peacefully on Good Friday, March 30, 2018, surrounded by her family at Country Meadows, Mechanicsburg, just three weeks shy of her 90th birthday. Time and again over the last six years, she defied the odds and rallied through illness, but this time God called her home and she is now at peace, free of pain and surrounded by love. She is survived by Joe, her loving husband of 65 years; brother Robert Hobaugh of New Cumberland; and five children: William Weiss (Anne), Marie Carson (Steven), Barb Sexton (Tom), Pat Devlin (John) and Linda Weiss; grandchildren Matthew and Laura Weiss, Amy and Erica Carson, Jacqueline and Connor Sexton, and Peter and Patrick Devlin. Janet was preceded in death by her parents William and Ivy Hobaugh and siblings Fritz Bowen, Louise Milletics, and Freda Lutz Lawley.
Janet was a member of Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church, Camp Hill, and her faith gave her great comfort and courage in her final years. Her passion in life was her family. She was an amazing wife, mother, and grandmother, always putting others before herself. She was wise and patient beyond words. And could she cook! Some of our fondest memories are Mom’s Sunday dinners for a table of 20. Janet and Joe were avid polka dancers, taking many polka trips with their friends and dancing regularly at Gornik’s Fieldhouse in Steelton.
Janet worked for years as an Executive Assistant at the Mechanicsburg Naval Depot. Prior to that, she worked as a teller at the Navy Depot DAFCU. But her favorite job in retirement was spending time with her grandchildren, watching them swim in their pool and letting them get away with things they couldn't at home.
The family extends its deepest appreciation to the staff of County Meadows and Celtic Hospice for taking such wonderful care of Janet. We will miss her dearly.
