John F. Michtich, 74, of Lower Swatara Township, died Saturday, April 7, 2018 in his home.
He was a retired employee of the Commonwealth of PA with 37 years of service. He was a graduate of Bishop McDevitt High School Class of 1962, a member of Prince of Peace Roman Catholic Parish, St. Lawrence Club and PA Sports Hall of Fame.
Beside his family, John's passion in life was football. He is known as a McDevitt football legend both on the field and as a spectator - "Get that quarterback". His nomination to the 1962 Big 33 team was the culmination of his sports career. John also was proud of winning the YMCA Basketball Championship at the age of 57.
John was the son of the late Frank J. Michtich, Sr. and Catherine Breski Michtich. He is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Karen; three sons, Ryan T. Williamson and wife, Adrienne of Mechanicsburg, Derek J. Michtich and wife, Juliann of Hershey, and Aydan J. Michtich, at home; one daughter, Katelyn Marie Michtich and companion, Trevor of Los Angeles, CA; four grandchildren, Payne, Owen, Eli, Aidan and Connor; sister-in-law, Virgie Michtich; niece, Maria and nephew, Joseph and families. He was preceded in death by his brother, Frank J. Michtich, Jr. and son, Teddy Michtich.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 13, 2018 at 11:00 am in Prince of Peace-Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, 815 S. Second St., Steelton with Very Rev. David L. Danneker, his Pastor, as Celebrant. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, A viewing will be held on Friday from 9:30 am to 10:30 am in Wiedeman Funeral Home, 357 S. Second St., Steelton, PA 17113.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bishop McDevitt High School Football Program, 1 Crusader Way, Harrisburg, PA 17111.
