Obituary of John Gorse
John W. Gorse, 92, passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at his home, Country Meadows, Hershey, PA.
John was born November 27, 1925 to John and Susan (Hobosky) Gorse. In addition to his parents, his wife, Helen Suzic Gorse, son, Douglas John Gorse, brothers, James and Thomas Gorse ,sister, Agnes Kozlosky and a sister-in-law, Betty Gorse preceded him in death.
He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Kay E. Priest Gorse, Hummelstown; sisters, Margaret Tennis (husband, Edward), of Middletown, Susan Gacesa (husband, John), of Highspire, Dorothy Moyer (husband, Carl) of Chambers Hill, JulieAnn Alexander of Harrisburg, and Mary Elizabeth Shettel of Lewisberry.
John was an active duty veteran of World War II, 17 Airborne, 464 Parachute Battalion, and Battery C. He saw action as part of Operation Varsity, 24 March 1945, Wesel, Germany. Varsity was meant to help surface river assault troops secure a foothold across the Rhine River. John enjoyed hunting (former member of Rock Ledge Rod and Gun Club), fishing, cross country skiing with his wife and flying his fabric airplane, which he recovered once with the help of his son, Douglas. John worked as a brick mason, relining furnaces at Bethlehem Steel. He was a member of Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, Middletown
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at 11:00 am in Wiedeman Funeral Home, 357 S. Second St., Steelton with Rev. Ted J. Keating, his Pastor, and Chaplain Jim Smith of Country Meadows, officiating. Burial will be in Churchville Cemetery, Oberlin with full military honors provided by the Dauphin County Honor Guard.
