Obituary of Laurette Gioffre
Laurette DeTullio Gioffre (72) of Lower Paxton Twp. went home to Jesus on Friday, February 23, 2018 at UPMC Pinnacle Community Osteopathic. Laurette felt very honored to be born on September 8, the day the Catholic Church celebrates the birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Laurette was born in Ellwood City, PA. She was the daughter of the late Daniel and Gloria (Zara) DeTullio. In addition to her parents, Laurette was preceeded in death by her brother, David DeTullio.
Laurette is survived by her husband Robert (Bob) Gioffre; daughters, Evonne Kopetchny (John) and Elissa Harr. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Nicole Gramlich, Susan Stolfus (Eric), Jacob, Joshua , and Noah Harr.
Laurette is a member of St. Catherine Laboure Parish in Harrisburg. Active participation in the church was fundamental to Laurette's being. She was an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. She helped in scheduling Holy Communion home visits for members of the parish who were unable to attend Mass. She was a former teacher in the parish school and was instrumental in setting-up the school's first computer lab. During her illness, Laurette frequently said, "If God is ready to meet with me, then I am ready to meet with God."
She loved being around all children, but found even more special joy the time she spent with her family. In her last hours, Laurette was especially blessed to be with all her beloved family. The family felt equally blessed.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Laurette on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at 11:00 am in St. Catherine Laboure Roman Catholic Church with Very Rev. Neil S. Sullivan, VF, her Pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Thursday from 9:30 am until 10:45 am in her church. Arrangements are being handled by Wiedeman Funeral Home, Steelton.
