Obituary of William Miller
William T. Miller, 100, of The Woods at Cedar Run, Camp Hill, died Wednesday, April 4, 2018 in Messiah Village.
Bill was a retired supervisor for the metallurgical dept. of Bethlehem Steel Corp., where he worked for 45 years. He lived a life of service to his community. He was a member of the former St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Enhaut, where he served as Eucharistic Minister, Parish Council member, Secretary of the Holy Name Society, Charter member of St. John's Boy Scout Troop 95, and Chairman of the Troop Committee. Bill was also the Secretary-Treasurer of the William Penn Assn and a member of the Bethlehem Steel WHI ("We've Had It") Club. He was a current member of St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church, New Cumberland. At The Woods at Cedar Run, he served as President of the Residents' Council, and was on the "Sassy Seniors" bell ringers team that raised money for the Salvation Army.
Bill was the youngest of ten children born to the late Andreas and Theresa Baumkratz Miller. His siblings predeceased him. He was the widower of Marie D. Bensinger Miller, to whom he was married for 68 years. He is survived by two sons, William T. Miller, Jr. and wife, Debra of Harrisburg, Michael G. Miller and wife, April of Frederick, MD; three daughters, Joanne M. Handlong of Mesa, AZ, Margaret "Peggy" Schatt and her husband, Joseph of Camp Hill, and Jeannette I. Miller and husband, Panos Mavromatis of Brooklyn, NY; ten grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. His family will miss his gentle presence and positive outlook, his sense of humor, his stories of growing up in Steelton, and his example of living his motto, "one day at a time."
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at 11:00 am in St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church, 1300 Bridge Street, New Cumberland, with Rev. J. Michael McFadden, his Pastor, as Celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Swatara Twp. A viewing will be held on Tuesday from 9:30 am until 10:30 am in Wiedeman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 357 South Second Street, Steelton.
