Andrew “Scott” Erskine, 83, of Harrisburg, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born in Pittsburgh, Scott was the son of the late Adolphus “Ranny” and Sarah “Sally” (Scott) Erskine. He was the loving husband of Antoinette “Toni” (Ruyechan) Erskine, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage.
Scott served his country as a member of the United States Army, Specialist 4th Class, in the mid-1960s and he held a special place in his heart for our country’s veterans. As a proud Scotsman, he learned to play the bagpipes at a young age and was a member of the Gordon Highlanders Pipe Band, where he served as Pipe Major, and the Syria Highlanders Pipes and Drums Band in Pittsburgh. When he moved to Harrisburg in the early 1980s, he became a member of the Zembo Highlanders Pipe Band, also serving as Pipe Major for a majority of his tenure with them. Throughout his lifetime, he marched many a mile with his bandmates entertaining crowds during parades no matter the weather and helped to raise funds to support the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital. He shared his love of Scottish culture by teaching the bagpipes to both young and old in Pittsburgh and Harrisburg. He was passionate about his Pittsburgh Steelers. You could find him on many gamedays cheering them on to victory or tortured by their defeat.
In addition to his wife, Scott is survived by his children Heather Kajic and her husband Martin, Christine Furrick and her husband Benjamin, and Scott Erskine, Jr.; his granddaughters Isabella and Riley Furrick; and sister Sarah Jean Thompson and her husband Paul; as well as many nieces and nephews.
