Bernice Archer

Bernice Mitchener Archer, born May 19, 1931, to the late Willie Candice Mitchener and Ben Mitchener in Oxford, North Carolina. Bernice came to Harrisburg in 1943 where she continued her elementary education at Wickersham and Calder Street School, then attending and graduating from William Penn High School.
In 1949 at the tender age of 18 she met David L. Archer, Sr., they fell in love and two years later they married. From that union seven children were born. Her children were her heartbeats whom she loved, nurtured, and adored greatly. Throughout her working career she was employed by the Harrisburg School District as a crossing guard and a food service provider. She also worked for the Harrisburg Hospital in the housekeeping department, however, her most esteemed positions were Mother, Wife, and Homemaker.
Bernice had a great love for the Lord, and she was a long-standing member of Goodwin Memorial Baptist Church and Mt. Calvary Church of God In Christ. She attended church services until she was physically unable and then, she conducted church service in her home.
Mrs. Archer had an outgoing personality which was evidenced in her joviality and her great love of dance.
Bernice was called home to the Lord on November 2, 2021. She was preceded in death by two children Conlan and Dorena Archer and a sister Frances Humphrey. As she rests, she leaves to cherish precious memories, her children Linda Strange (Alex), Dianna Darrington, Melanie Curry (Julius), David Archer, Jr., and Brett Archer; a sister Nancy Hannah; eight grandchildren Darrell, Levar, Japhel, David III, Davina, Burnice, Anthony and Gabriel; four great-grand children and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday November 10, 2021 at 11:00 am in Wiedeman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 357 South Harrisburg St. Oberlin with Pastor Walter Dockens Jr., officiating. A viewing will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Wednesday in the funeral home. Burial will be in East Harrisburg Cemetery.
