Catherine Joan “Rene” Jenkins, 93, formerly of Camp Hill, passed peacefully and has gone to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.
Rene was born in Enhaut, Steelton, PA on November 25, 1930 to Markos Verbos and Barbara Starsinic with six siblings. She married Reese Jenkins and had a home in Camp Hill. She retired from AT&T as the friendly long-distance operator and later worked part-time for Gannett Fleming as the switchboard operator.
She was an active member of the Eastern Star for many years and was the Worthy Matron of Areme Chapter in 1971-1972. Rene was active in the Katabells, the ladies’ group for the Shrine Oriental Band, as well as the VFW ladies’ auxiliary. She was also a member of Camp Hill Presbyterian Church and participated on many committees and events.
She was always willing to give of herself to her family and so many others without hesitation and with much joy. She volunteered at Bethany Village Retirement Home once a week. She enjoyed keeping busy and making friends everywhere she went.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Markos Verbos and Barbara Starsinic, her husband Reese, sisters Helen (Lou) Mayon, Jean Bahoric, Agnes (Faye) Yovic, Jacqueline Mc Laughlin and brother Victor Verbos.
Surviving are her daughter Dawn Jenkins and husband, Dan Fulghum, her sister Barbara (Dolly) Gustin and sister-in-law Lois Verbos plus many nieces and nephews and extended family members.
A Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 18, 2024 at Camp Hill Presbyterian Church, 101 N 23rd Street, Camp Hill, PA 17011. Burial at the conclusion of services will be in Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill. A Viewing will be held from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at Wiedeman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 357 S Harrisburg Street, Oberlin, with an Eastern Star service taking place at 6:00 PM. There will also be a viewing one hour prior to service on Friday from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM in the church.
