David (Poppy) S. Pollard, Sr., 70, of Harrisburg, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2021, surrounded by his loving family and friends. David was born in Harrisburg on February 14, 1951, to the late William and Romaine Pollard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving son, Davey; and brothers, Edgar and Bill.
He was a 1970 graduate of Steelton Highspire High School where he enjoyed playing football and wrestling. Dave retired from UGI and later worked at Bass Pro Shop in the Golf Department. He was an avid golfer, bowler and outdoor sportsman. He was proud of his annual golf outings that supported the American Red Cross. He will be remembered for his love of family and friends. He was a big man with a deep voice and a heart of gold.
David is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Christina (Murray) Pollard; his daughter, Monica (Pollard) Vajda and her husband, Steve; and his son, Danny Pollard. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Herbie (Cheryl), Stevie (Maria), Donald (Carolyn), Chuckie (Margie), Beth Brown and Cindy Parker; his grandchildren, Devin and Kenzie Vajda; many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends who also became his family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 12 noon at St. Catherine Laboure Roman Catholic Church, 4000 Derry Street, Harrisburg, with the Rev. Richard J. Mowery, his nephew, as celebrant. A viewing will be held on Saturday from 9:30 am until 11:30 am at Weideman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 357 South Harrisburg Street, Oberlin. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110 or to The American Red Cross.
