Donald L. Heimbaugh, 92, of Harrisburg, died at Brookdale Senior Living on Thursday, September 5, 2024. Born in Juniata County, PA, he was the son of the late Marshall and Nellie (Sheerer) Heimbaugh. He was the loving husband of the late Lois M. (Maffett) Heimbaugh, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage until her death in 2019.
Donald graduated from Juniata Joint High School in 1950 and went on to earn an Associate’s Degree from the Central Pennsylvania Business School. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He went on to work for Industrial Motor Supply, where he became Part Owner until his retirement in 1999.
Donald was a devout member of The Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd for over 50 years, and he served on various committtees, as well as Sunday School Teacher for the Old Testament, and as Maintenance Supervisor during his retirement. He firmly believed in quietly doing for others and was generous with his time without expecting anything in return. Most of all he was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who placed his family first.
Donald was an antique car collector and belonged to several clubs, including the Hershey Antique Auto Club (where he earned his 50 years pin), the Antique Auto Club of America, the Rolls Royce Club of America, the Model T Club, and the Model A Club. He enjoyed collecting antiques of all kinds, travelling, whistling, and was an avid reader as well.
Donald is survived by his daughter Anita Heimbaugh Warfield and her fiancé Michael Gilberthorp; his grandchildren Kyle, Nathan and Emily (husband, Matthew); his great-granddaughter Winter Lou; his brother Harold “Skip” Heimbaugh; and his sisters Flo Hackenberger and Dorothy Jean Dunkle; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers Clarence Heimbaugh, Jay Heimbaugh, LeRoy Heimbaugh, and Ralph Heimbaugh.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at The Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 3700 Rutherford Street, Harrisburg, PA 17111 with The Reverend Kathleen J. Baker, STM officiating. A Visitation will take place in the church on Wednesday from 10:00-11:00 AM.
