Doris M. Stringer, 96, of Middletown, passed on Sunday October 31, 2021 in Sena Kean Manor in McKean County PA.
She was born in Harrisburg on May 31, 1925, the daughter of the late Michael and Catherine (Drager) Stringer. Doris retired from the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, having served as an Executive Secretary to the Commissioners, and was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church in Highspire.
Doris was a very active and enthusiastic lady. Among her civic and charitable activities, Doris volunteered for Hospice, was a member of the local garden club and was a very proud, and long-standing, member of Harrisburg Soroptimist Club, having served as past President. She was a social member of the St. Aloysius Club #42 and the St. Lawrence Club in Steelton, Pennsylvania. Doris was an avid follower and fan of the Polka Quads, having followed them on numerous cruises and bus trips. She loved polka dances and the ethnic celebrations held in and among her home in Highspire.
She loved life, and she loved people. Her positive attitude and effervescent smile was an inspiration to those around her.
She is survived by Barbara (William) Lawrence; Nancy (James) Rawie; Arlene Cook and Dylan Cooney; Robert (Linda) Stringer, along with their families. She is further survived by the Hannah Family--Robert, Katherine, Tyler and Travis (Vanessa). Doris was preceded in death by her longtime partner and companion, Alfred William ("Bill") Kennedy, and her beloved dog, Onyx.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday November 6, 2021 in Wiedeman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 357 South Harrisburg St. Oberlin, with the Rev. Dr. Alan C. Wenrich, officiating. A viewing will be held on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 am in the funeral home. Burial will be in Highspire Cemetery.
