It is with great sadness we announce the unexpected passing on November 30, 2024, of our beloved son and brother Douglas S. Muretic, 62 of San Mateo, California, formerly of Steelton, PA. Doug was the youngest of seven children born to Mary Ann Muretic (Marinak) and the late Joseph M. Muretic, Sr. of Steelton.
Doug graduated from Steelton-Highspire High School in 1980 during which time he was a member of the State Champion football team. After initially enrolling at West Chester University, where he also played football, he was drawn to the sunny shores of California where he finished his bachelor’s degree in electronic engineering from California Polytechnic State University. The bulk of his engineering career was with Bell Microproducts, but he held several engineering positions before shifting professions to work for Reliable Rides Transportation Services in 2006. Later in his life, he became an entrepreneur and started two of his own companies: Muretic Sales and Consulting and One Man with a Box Van moving company.
Doug was admired and respected among his neighbors, friends and community. He often volunteered to run errands and do odd jobs for anyone in need. He was very involved with his parish, Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church, and worked closely with the Franciscan fathers.
As an avid outdoorsman, some of his favorite activities included bike riding, catching waves at Stone Harbor, fishing at the beach with the family, or watching the sunset with a cigar in his hand and smile on his face. He also enjoyed spending time at our cabin hunting and surrounded by family! This was something he always made time for when visiting, whether it was a work weekend or a big family reunion.
What will be missed even more than our times together are the feelings he evoked whenever he was around. Everyone wanted to spend time with Doug when he was in town. He was the coolest uncle, the smoothest wingman, that constant friend - young at heart and down for anything! He had the innate ability to bring us all together and remind us not take ourselves too seriously. He made life better for others through his endless generosity, be it his time, a gift that made him think of you, or just a shoulder to rest your head on. His passing leaves a big hole in our hearts but his memory will live on through his spirit for life and the people that he touched.
In addition to his beloved mother, Mary Ann Muretic (Marinak), Doug leaves behind his siblings Barbara Kelly, Harrisburg, Joseph Muretic Jr. (Carol), Steelton, Thomas Muretic (Marilyn), Lewisberry, David Muretic (Betsy), Yardley and Deborah Elias (Timothy), Harrisburg. He is also survived by 21 nieces and nephews, 14 great-nieces and nephews, 4 great-great nieces and nephews, and his dear friend, Samantha Rose. In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his infant sister Patricia Jean Muretic, brother-in-law John Kelly Jr., maternal grandparents Andrew and Josephine Marinak and paternal grandparents Josip and Ann Muretic.
