It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edward Howard Barish, 85, on September 23, 2022 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
Edward was born on June 23, 1937 in Philadelphia, PA. Edward is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Barbara J. Barish, parents William and Rose Barish, sisters Shirley Toren and Doris Baranoff and son-in-law Jerry J. Palermo. He is survived by his five children, son, Bruce G. Barish, and his wife Diane, daughters, Terry L. Meyers, Wendy M. Palermo, Tracey A. Carson and her husband Chris, Shari D. Lantzy and her husband Douglas, sister-in-law Geraldine Null, several nieces and nephews, 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
Edward grew up in Philadelphia and attended Central High School, playing varsity football and baseball. After graduating, Ed attended the University of Pennsylvania and graduated in 1958 from the Wharton School of Business.
Ed went to work after graduation at Food Fair and once he completed his store manager trainee program he was given his own store to manage in Vineland, NJ. Not only was Vineland his first management experience it was also where he met the love of his life, Barbara.
After getting married they moved to Virginia Beach, VA and Portsmouth, NH before settling in Chambers Hill where they raised their family and lived for over 40 years.
After 23 years working at Food Fair/Pantry Pride, Ed made the bold decision to no longer work for a large company and bought his own grocery store, Uptown Pantry Fresh. The success of that store ultimately grew into a second store as well as three convenience stores in the Harrisburg/York area.
In addition to running his supermarkets, Ed was a big horse racing fan and was owner of several horses at Penn National over the years
