Eileen R. Holey, loving wife of Richard C. Holey, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 surrounded by her family. She lost her 10 year battle with cancer after enduring many years of illness with strength, courage, faith and a strong blend of humor; she taught us all the value of hope, faith and perseverance.
Eileen was born in Mount Kisco NY, the eighth of nine children of the late Mary Margaret (Canty) and Charles Francis Robinson. She graduated from the University of Massachusetts School of Nursing. After Eileen and Richard “Carlos” married in 1991, they moved to PA where she began her career as an ER nurse at Hershey Medical Center. After many years, she opted to become a professional foster parent and brought home many children to love. After recovering from breast cancer, Eileen resumed her nursing career in 2015 with Celtic Hospice of PA.
Eileen was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend to so many. She is survived by her husband Richard and their daughters Leah and Anna Holey, their extended family Aviana Fernandez and Michael Bowers and life-long friend Andrea Myers. She is also survived by her sisters Evelyn Pomella of Marshfield, MA, Kathleen Sachs of Georgetown, MA, and Maureen Robinson of Plymouth MA; and by her brothers James, Kevin and Shaun Robinson of Marshfield, MA, Michael Robinson of Boston, MA and Richard Robinson of Honolulu, HI. She is also survived by twelve nieces and nephews, and Robinson and Canty cousins a plenty.
Eileen loved so many things – she loved being a mother, loved to read and eat chocolate, she loved to dance and tried to sing, loved to travel and most especially, Eileen loved the ocean wherever she could find it. Eileen had an adventurous mind and spirit, and yet she liked nothing more than the quiet of the outdoors listening to birds sing. She never saw an animal that she did not want to take home. Eileen felt she had been blessed in life, and in turn, she was a blessing to us all. She will, in so many ways, always be with us.
Eileen was a member of the LifePoint Church community. She and her family were embraced for many years during her illness by the love and support of her church family, including many acts of kindness and hot meals.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday March 27 at 11:00 at LifePoint Church, 7733 Hillcrest Avenue, Harrisburg PA. Services will be private at the request of the family. Arrangements by Wiedeman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc, Oberlin.
Eileen’s family will be forever grateful to the Oncology team at Penn State Cancer Institute for their unending search for the cure, and their kindness and devotion to Eileen. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Eileen’s name to the Penn State Cancer Institute or to the Eileen Holey Memorial Fund.
