Elmer A. Burd passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2022, in UPMC-Community General Hospital at the age of 91. He was born on a farm, at the base of the mountain, north of Linglestown Road to the late W. Fred Burd, Sr. and Elsie K. (Currey) Burd and was raised in Penbrook.
He graduated from John Harris High School in 1948 and although not called to active duty, served in the US Navy Reserves from 1948-1960. He worked at Harrisburg Steel for 35 years as a Lab Technician and then 6 years with Impact Management Group as the site manager at the former Senate Building in Camp Hill for the IBM Company.
Elmer had a friendly, outgoing personality, liked people, and always wanted to do something useful. He used his mechanical skills on cars, when they were still a do-it-yourself possibility. He delivered medicine for See-Right Pharmacy on 6TH Street in Harrisburg. He was a member of Central Penn Fitness since 1999 until sidelined by medical problems, and was a life-long member of the Penbrook Church of God.
Elmer is survived by his wife, Monica F. (Chernick) Burd of 63 years, his daughter Brenda and 3 great-nephews, Chris, Greg, and Sam.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Wilber F. Burd, Jr. and his sister, Helen M. Shughart.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at 11:00 am in Penbrook Church of God, 2733 Canby St. Penbrook. Private burial will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held on Wednesday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am in the church. Wiedeman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Oberlin is handling arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the Penbrook Church of God.
