Eugene “Trapper” Spizzirri

Eugene “Trapper” Spizzirri, 95, of Steelton, passed away at his home on Friday, January 10, 2025. "Trapper” was born March 7, 1929 in Steelton and was the son of the late Giuseppe and Clara (Vance) Spizzirri. He is survived by his spouse Nancy (Blatt) Spizzirri, his loving wife of 73 years. He was also preceded in death by his sister Jean Mavrin and his brother-in-law Tony, and also his brother Frank Spizzirri and sister-in-law Sarah. 

Gene graduated from Steelton High School in 1948 and served in the in the United States Navy. He was employed at Bethlehem Steel and retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a supervisor of the groundskeepers. He was an avid Penn State fan, trout fisherman, and hunter, and he loved his Brittany Spaniels. You were always able to find him around the campfire at Poe Valley State Park. He sat on the board of the Steelton Italian Club and was a member of the St. Lawrence Club. But above all, his family was always first. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his caring daughters Carol Muretic (Joseph), Sandra Grunden (Terry), Donna Livering (Melvin), and nephew Joseph Mavrin (Regina). Eugene leaves behind 6 grandchildren, Joseph, Matt, Stephen, Bryan, Erin, and Taylor and 9 great-grandchildren-Aiden, Leah, Milania, Bryce, Harper, Brady, Stella, Joey, and Cillian as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and fishing and hunting friends. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at 11:00am at Prince of Peace-Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 815 South Second Street, Steelton, PA 17113 with Reverend Jonathan P. Sawicki, Celebrant. A viewing will take place at Wiedeman Funeral Home, 357 S Harrisburg Street, Oberlin, on Wednesday 9:00 AM-10:30 AM. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Tunnel to Towers at www.t2t.org or Wounded Warriors at www.woundedwarriorproject.org
