Frank Joseph Epler, 79, of Oberlin, PA, died on September 22, 2022 at his home.
Frank was born in Coaldale to Emma (Pieracini) and Franklin Epler on December 1, 1942. Growing up in Tamaqua, he was a graduate of Marian Catholic High School in 1960 and served his country in the United States Air Force, stationed in Minot, North Dakota, and Freising, Germany.
Following his service, Frank, who also attended Minot State College, earned a business administration degree from Thompson College of Business of Harrisburg. After beginning his professional career as an assistant treasurer for The Patriot-News Co., Frank soon advanced to the role of executive financial officer. He performed in this role for 36 years until his retirement in January 2003.
A longtime member of International Newspaper Financial Executives, Frank also was a member of the Board of Trustees for Central Pennsylvania YMCA and was a former board member of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg. Frank and Rosemarie belonged to the former St. Ann''s Roman Catholic Church in Steelton, raising their family within the parish with Frank serving on the parish advisory committee for nearly 20 years. He later served on the St. Catherine Laboure finance committee, Paxton Lions Club, and was a member of the Harrisburg Chamber of Commerce. Frank was a champion for all children, not just his own. He was a past president of Sylvan Heights orphanage and coached youth baseball in Steelton and soccer in the Swatara Youth Soccer League.
Frank enjoyed boating, fishing, golf, and woodworking. He loved to listen and laugh, a good steak and bowl of chili, and the occasional Corona with no lime. Most of all, he spent a lifetime caring for his family and friends in countless ways. Their happiness he cherished the most. His selflessness brought comfort and stability to so many. This was his singular purpose.
Frank is survived by his loving wife, Rosemarie (Jupin), of 55 years; three children, Michelle Aly, of Harrisburg, Dr. Mark J. Epler, of Lancaster, and his wife, Rebecca (Myers), and Eric Epler, of Steelton; six grandchildren, Zach, Noah, Emma, Kendall, Luke and Benjamin.
