Gail Jones

Gail A. Jones, 50, of Swatara Township, passed away Saturday, November 5, 2022, in her home, surrounded by loved ones after a five-month battle with cervical cancer.

Born August 26, 1972, in Pottsville, she was the daughter of Russell and Charlotte (Readinger) Dewald. She was a 1990 graduate of Schuylkill Haven High School and obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Shippensburg University in 1994. She also received her master''s degree in Teaching and Curriculum from Penn State Harrisburg in 2005.

Gail directly impacted more than one-thousand students during her career in the Middletown Area School District, both through her work as a teacher and as department chair. She was involved in countless committees and could often be found after school hours assisting with athletic and department meetings. Gail was also recognized as Middletown Area School District''s Teacher of the Year in the 2014-2015 school year for her excellence and commitment both inside the classroom as well as her tremendous effect on the community.

Gail is survived by her husband, Ernest A. Jones and their 3 cats, Zeke, Chloe, and Finnegan; brother Dean A. Dewald, sister Dawn M. (Dewald) Mattes, and brother-in-law William E. Jones. She is also survived by her niece Emily Mattes, nephew Michael Mattes, and grand-niece Charlotte Charli Dintiman. She will forever be their Aunt Ge-Ge. She had many honorary nieces and nephews as well.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at 12:00 pm in the Wiedeman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 357 S. Harrisburg St. Oberlin with Rev. Kenneth J. McDowell, Officiating. A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 19 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm in the funeral home.
