Genevieve C. “Jenny” Potami McKinley, 99, formerly of Lower Paxton Twp., passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Spring Arbor of Winchester, Winchester, VA. Born in Steelton, she was the daughter of the late Vincenzo and Raffaela Rachiele Potami. She was the loving wife of the late Roger M. McKinley, who passed away in 2020.
Genevieve graduated from Steelton High School, class of 1942. Growing up, she was a member of St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church. Upon relocating to Virginia, she attended St. John’s Catholic Church in McLean, VA for over 40 years. There, she assisted in running the Church Thrift Shop. She attended St. Catherine Laboure Roman Catholic Church in later years when she returned to PA.
She worked at Muth and Mumma Dental Lab and the Harrisburg Telegraph Newspaper in Harrisburg, then as a Secretary for the US Navy in Washington, DC until her retirement.
Genevieve was an avid reader and enjoyed playing Bridge and Pinochle. Most of all, she was a loving mother, stepmother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be very much missed.
Genevieve is survived by her son, Roger M. McKinley and wife Linda of Stephens City, VA; 2 granddaughters Kelly Crane and husband Tom, and Tammy Yoder and husband Randy; 5 great grandchildren Bella and Caleb Crane, and Lily, Skylar, and Isaac Yoder; 1 stepdaughter, Rose Longabach and husband William of Manheim, PA; 1 stepson, David McKinley of Watertown, NY; 3 step grandchildren John and Amanda Longabach, and Sara Brandt and husband Adam; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by 2 brothers, 7 sisters, and her great grandson, Matthias.
Funeral Services will take place at Wiedeman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 357 S Harrisburg Street, Oberlin, PA 17113, on Friday, February 16, 2024 at 12:00 PM with Rev. Anthony J. Pinizzotto, her nephew, officiating. Burial will take place at Friedens Lutheran Union Cemetery in Myerstown, PA. A Viewing will take place on Friday at the funeral home from 11:00-12:00. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org, or to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation at www.t2t.org
