George Behr

George 'Cootch' Behr, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully in his home on 22 APR 2024, at the age of 88. He is survived by Inmaculada, his wife of 65 years; by his children Delmi, George, Carlos and Gabriel; and by many grandkids and great-grandkids.

He was born and raised in the greater Pittsburgh PA area, starting life 02 FEB 1936. He told stories of 'working hard on farms and planting tons of trees', the beginning of a lifelong habit of saving the climate before it was popular.

He learned Spanish writing to a pretty young girl pen pal from Spain. Five years of writing - and many Spanish corrections later -  he and his pen pal Inmaculada fell in love when he visited her in Almeria, Spain, while on leave from Army service in Germany. She found him handsome, brilliant and fun. They married shortly after, and he lived much of his life in service to her and his family. He outworked most - sometimes 3 jobs at a time - so that his Bride could spend more time with their children, raising kids that knew they were loved.

A retired Army veteran, he was a draftsman by trade: his pipe drawings won him awards, and the roadmaps produced with his cartographic skills at PennDOT guided drivers through the roads of PA for decades before there were GPSs.

Divinely-inspired and slow to anger, he always pursued knowledge - gardening techniques, sailing, spiritual insights, and more - which he quickly shared with anyone that would listen, always in a delightful way.

Preceded in death by his daughter Maria, we know they are both enjoying a great laugh and a great bottle of wine while they wait for the rest of us. The family will celebrate his life and legacy at the beach in June. Instead of flowers or donations, the family asks that you plant a tree named 'Cootch' in your yard or in your favorite park.

Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.  Arrangements by Wiedeman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc.
