George J. Gabel

George J. Gabel, 97, of Steelton, passed away at home surrounded by family on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. Born in Enhaut, he was the son of the late George and Margaret (Rupert) Gabel. He was the loving husband of the late Cornelia (Miller) Gabel, who passed in 2012.

George was an active member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Steelton in his younger years. He worked for Bethlehem Steel and the Reading Railroad until his retirement. He enjoyed reading, sports- especially baseball and horse racing, music, travelling, and was a longtime fan of Schmidt’s Sausages. Most of all, George loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be missed by all.

George is survived by his sons, George C. Gabel and companion Diane of Hummelstown, Louis R. Gabel of Deptford, NJ, John W. Gabel of Steelton, and Jeffrey A. Gabel of Steelton; his daughter, Margaret L. Gabel of Steelton; his granddaughters Cassandra Trump of Florida, and Jocelynn Gabel of Florida; and great-grandsons Bradley and Camden. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John Gabel; son-in-law, Joseph Caminiti; and his beloved dogs Daisy and Clyde.

Services are private and at the convenience of the family. Private burial will take place at Churchville Cemetery in Oberlin. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Wiedeman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. at 357 S Harrisburg Street in Oberlin.
