Herbert Jenks

Herbert Emery Jenks lll, 73, of Harrisburg, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 in Ecumenical Communities Harrisburg, PA.

Herb was born August 14, 1949, and was the only son of the late Herbert E. Jenks Jr. and Dorothy (Martin) Jenks.

He was a lifelong resident of Harrisburg, and was a 1967 graduate of John Harris High School. Shortly after graduating, Herb landed his first job at Holy Spirit Hospital, where he worked for 10 years. He spent more than 20 years as a dedicated member of the maintenance staff for Central Dauphin School District, retiring in 2008.

In his early years, Herb was an avid bowler who regularly participated in local leagues and spent time enjoying the sport with his children. He loved music and had an extensive record collection. He delighted in cheering on the Phillies and enjoying the horse races at Penn National.

He is survived by his son Gregory Jenks of Harrisburg, daughter Melanie Jenks of Murrysville, PA and son Anthony Jenks of Elizabethtown.

Herb showed extreme pride in his children and instilled in them his work ethic, and love of music, sports, and humor.

Herb’s family extends their sincere gratitude to the entire staff of caregivers at Ecumenical Communities for the excellent care he received these past few years. Lastly, the family is grateful for the compassion and care Lifesong Hospice and Palliative Care provided during his final days.

A private scattering of ashes will be done at a later date. Arrangements by Wiedeman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., Oberlin.
