J. Anthony Kocevar, 82, of Harrisburg, died Friday, September 13, 2024 in his home, with his beloved daughter by his side.
He retired after 29 years in the Finance Department at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, and continued working at the PA Dept. of Treasury and Holy Family Roman Catholic Church. He was a graduate of Bishop McDevitt High School Class of 1960 and Penn State University, a member of the former Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, KSKJ American Slovenian Catholic Union, St. Aloysius Society Lodge #42, and Notre Club of Harrisburg. He served in the US Army National Guard, having completed training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO in June of 1967.
Tony was the son of the late Anthony and Anna (Jakofcic) Kocevar of Steelton and was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Gail (Schell) Kocevar. Surviving is his daughter, Ashley H. Rice, his son-in-law, John J. Rice, Jr., and his beloved grandson, Liam Anthony Rice.
Tony's infectious charisma will be missed by many and remembered fondly for years to come. He was ultimate Notre Dame man, not just as a sports fan, but in his love of Our Lady, the Blessed Mother.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 20, 2024 at 2:00 PM in Prince of Peace-Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, 815 S. Second St., Steelton. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Thursday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Friday from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm in Wiedeman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 357 S. Harrisburg St., Oberlin.
