James “Brent” Weisser, 76, of Susquehanna Township, passed away peacefully Sunday February 25, 2024.
Born in Baltimore, MD to the late Martin Weisser and Veronica Clark Weisser. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Patricia Green Weisser; sons Anthony (Desiree) Weisser, Steven (Alexis) Weisser, and Brian (Emily Hoffman) Weisser; granddaughters Avry, Gabrielle, and Michaela Weisser; identical twin brother Francis “Bruce” (Sandy) Weisser; sister Sharon Weisser; as well as many nieces, nephews, and in-laws - all his favorite.
Brent met his wife Pat at an early age in Levittown, PA. After Brent’s family moved several times, serendipity reunited them, leading to their marriage at Queen of the Universe Catholic Church.
Brent enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a corpsman at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital as well as aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard (CVA-31) Aircraft Carrier during a Vietnam War Campaign. He received an honorable discharge in April 1972.
Brent took great pride in the progression of his lifelong career with the Conrail and Norfolk Southern Railroads as a Laborer, Machinist, Metroliner Technician, General Foreman, Superintendent, Manager of Technical Service, Assistant Director of Process Improvement, and Manager of Processes. He earned his Six Sigma Master Black Belt and appreciated the opportunities to teach the Six Sigma curriculum to many colleagues as he valued his contribution to others’ success.
Founding his own consulting company - Six Sigma Solutions, Inc. - Brent led a rewarding second career assisting short line railroads and various transit agencies both domestically and internationally with process improvement, locomotive repair, and subject matter expert consultation for his numerous, specific areas of proficiency.
The kindness of a neighbor early in Brent’s life and frequent invitations for he and his brother Bruce to sail on the Penn Warner lakes in Tulleytown, PA stoked a love of the water in Brent. Sailing, fishing, swimming, and even just enjoying the sound of the ocean brought a wide smile to his face. Brent appreciated the respite offered by hunting; although, the annual trips to the cabin eventually afforded more comradery of family and simple traditions than actual hunting. He maintained a respectable handicap when he was a member of a local bowling league. Brent enjoyed jazz music throughout his life and in recent years he greatly looked forward to regularly attending local Dave Stahl concerts with his friends. He did not claim to be a photographer, but could not pass up the opportunity to capture a beautiful passing cloud, an autumn mountainside, or seemingly any snowfall.
Above all else, Brent was an excellent husband, Dad, Grandpop, brother, and uncle. He treasured his family, the moments spent together, and the love they shared. He volunteered his time and patience as a baseball and basketball coach for countless seasons of his sons’ recreational league teams. Later in life, you could find Brent as a spectator on the sidelines at his granddaugthers’ soccer tournaments, basketball games, volleyball games and in the audience of their recitals. Additionally, Brent fervently advocated for charitable donations to the MS Society via an annual walk - a cause benefiting research for his son - and he was frequently a top earning sponsor for the local event.f
A Memorial Service celebrating Brent’s life will be held on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at 11:00 AM in the Wiedeman Funeral Home located 357 S. Harrisburg St, Swatara Township. Friends and family will be received at the funeral home on Sunday from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM.
