June 22, 1947 — December 23, 2024

John J. Babish, Jr.

John Babish, 77, of Oberlin, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2024 surrounded by his loving family at Hershey Medical Center. Born on June 22 1947, John grew up in Bressler, married the love of his life Donna Tezak, and spent the next 53 years at their first home in Oberlin. He spent all of his days taking care of his wife, three kids, extended family and anyone else who came to his door.

John worked hard all his life for both Harrisburg Steel then MAC trucks where he only recently retired a few years ago. During the times he was laid off from both jobs, John took any available work to make sure he provided for his family. John was a quiet unassuming man who would give you the shirt of his back without hesitation. He was never one for big crowds but everyone was welcomed at his home.

John was an avid history buff, especially the Civil War and the Battle at Gettysburg. He collected and displayed model trains and would take his kids, grandkids and all the friends to visit Roadside America often. But, his passion was his love of sports cars. His happiest days were spent going for a ride in his convertible with his dog, Sofi, and his wife by his side. John shared all of his knowledge of history and working on cars with his children, grandchildren, and nieces and nephew.

John’s love for his family was the cornerstone of his life. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Donna (Tezak) Babish; his children, Kim Coleman (Bill), Johnny Babish (Alisha), and Matt Babish; and his grandchildren, Samantha, Aaron, Victoria, and Delaney; as well as a host of extended family and close friends who will miss his wisdom, companionship and playful side.

Services are private and at the convenience of the family. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Human Society of Harrisburg at www.humanesocietyhbg.org in John’s memory because he was a huge animal lover.

John’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be remembered not only for his kindness but for his compassion, integrity, and the profound impact he had on the lives of others.

Rest in peace, John. Although you will be deeply missed you set the foundation for the strength to take care of ourselves and to support one another.
