John “Jack” Joseph Rozman, 89, of Camp Hill, passed peacefully on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at Encompass Rehabilitation Health Hospital. Born and raised in Steelton, he was the son of the late John M. and Mary A. (Bratina) Rozman.
Jack graduated from Catholic High School in 1953. He was captain of the football team and president of his class. He was a 1957 graduate of Villanova University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Jack served in the United State Marine Corps for 26 years until his retirement as Lt. Colonel. He volunteered for two tours of duty in Vietnam. Wounded by enemy fire in Operation Hickory in 1967, then Captain Rozman was a recipient of a Purple Heart. He embraced the motto of “Semper Fidelis” in all aspects of his life, throughout his time in the service and in his faith, family and personal life.
After his retirement from the military, he worked for Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) as an Emergency Management Specialist, responsible for disaster preparedness and response for 27 years. He retired at 82 years old.
Jack was a devout Catholic who loved The Lord and was a good and faithful servant. He was an active and respected member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, where he was an early member of the Knights of the Altar and trained other members in his later years. He was a kind and generous man supporting many charities and was a member of the Military Officers Association of America. In his spare time, he enjoyed fine dining and a having a Manhattan at Nick’s in New Cumberland.
Jack was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend. He was deeply committed to his faith, was honored to have served our country, was proud of his family, and cherished the title of “PopPop” from his grandsons. He is deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Jack is survived by his wife, Dorrel (Allen) Rozman; daughter Mary Lipscomb and her husband Clark of San Antonio, TX; son John T. Rozman of Camp Hill; grandchildren Luke Lipscomb and Ryan Lipscomb. He also leaves behind his gained daughters Donna Otto, Nancy Behrend, and Karen Fraley and their families, and niece Renee (Rozman) Dormer and her family. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Hubert “Roz” Rozman, his wife Karen (Cromer), and son Thomas J. Rozman.
A Traditional Latin Mass of Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 2, 2024 at St. Lawrence of Rome, Deacon and Martyr, 110 State Street, Harrisburg, PA 17101, with Rev. James Smith, FSSP celebrating. Burial will follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with Military Honors. A Viewing will be held from 8:30 AM-9:30 AM on Monday at Wiedeman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 357 S Harrisburg Street in Oberlin.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who knew Jack take a loved one out to dinner or for a Manhattan to share stories about him. Cheers!
