Joseph F. Mowery, 92, of West Hanover Twp. died Thursday, November 16, 2023, in his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was a retired Sales Representative for Addressograph/Multigraph, Harrisburg and had also worked for The Catholic Witness, American Cancer Society and Duplex, was a proud Veteran of the United States Coast Guard, training in Cape May, NJ, he served four years active duty on the USCGC Pandora in Panama and San Juan, Puerto Rico and one year in the Naval Reserves. Joseph was a member of Opus Dei, an organization within the Catholic Church and a member of Holy Name of Jesus Roman Catholic Church for over 50 years.
Joseph had an amazing love for his family and his faith. His priority was to seek God in your ordinary life. He did this by speaking to everyone he met about faith and love for Jesus. He loved reading books, listening to music, watching old movies, vacationing and fishing with family in Stone Harbor NJ, enjoyed running and was on the track and field team at Catholic High, ran in the Penn Relays and had attended Wharton School of Business.
Joseph was the son of the late John A. and Dorothy T. Schindler Mowery, was preceded in death by a son; Joseph F. Mowery II, and a brother, John Mowery. He was the widower of his beloved wife of 68 years, Antonia M. Mowery and is survived by three daughters; Maria T. Pierce, Imelda M. Willoughby (Dean) and Anne E. Waggoner (Bret); two sons, Michael G. Mowery (Tracy) and Patrick A. Mowery; one daughter-in-law, Georgie Wilson; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 27, 2023 at 11:00 am in Holy Name of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, 6150 Allentown Blvd., Harrisburg with Rev. Damon A. Tritle, Parochial Vicar, Celebrant. Burial at the conclusion of Mass, with full military honors, will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. A viewing will be held on Monday from 10:00 to 11:00 am in the church. A rosary will be held on Monday in the church at 9:30 am. Wiedeman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Oberlin is handling arrangements.
