Joseph A. "Skip" Wiedeman, 82, of Hummelstown and formerly of Lenker Manor, Swatara Twp., passed on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 in Carolyn''s House of Hospice of Central PA, Susquehanna Twp.
He was a 1957 graduate of Harrisburg Catholic High School and a 1961 graduate of St. Joseph University, Philadelphia, with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration.
Prior to founding his accounting firm in 1973, Wiedeman and Douty, CPA''s, he was employed by Main and Co. (now KPMG) and Harrisburg Area Community College.
Skip was a member of the Air National Guard of PA. He was Treasurer and Board Member of Mechanics Savings and Loan for 29 years. He was a member of many organizations, including American Institute of CPA''s, Capital Area Chapter of PA Sports Hall of Fame, East Shore Twilight League Hall of Fame, American Legion Post 594, Mechanicsburg Club, Hershey Italian Lodge and St. Catherine Laboure Roman Catholic Church, Swatara Twp.
While raising his family, Skip spent much time volunteering in the community, including coaching youth baseball and basketball teams and serving on several boards. He loved laughing and being with family and friends on vacations, cruises, dinners, tailgates and parties. He enjoyed fishing, playing poker, reading, watching sports, playing basketball, and golfing. He was an avid fan of Penn State football, the Philadelphia Phillies, and the Philadelphia Eagles.
Skip was the son of the late Joseph A. and Margaret E. Houseal Wiedeman and was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Mary Ellen Wiedeman (Burba), by just 25 days. He is survived by one daughter, Pamela A. Wiedeman and her husband, Dave Weaver of Hershey; two sons, Joseph "Jay" Wiedeman of Paxtang and Gregory A. Wiedeman and his wife, Bridget Shannon Wiedeman of Ardmore; two granddaughters, Abby Wiedeman and Tessa Wiedeman of Ardmore; one brother, Dennis L. Wiedeman and his wife, Patricia A. Falcone Wiedeman of Oberlin.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 22, 2021 at 11:00 am in St. Catherine Laboure Roman Catholic Church, 4000 Derry St., Swatara Twp. with Rev. James E. Lease, his Pastor, as Celebrant. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Monday from 10:00 until 11:00 am in his church. Arrangements are being handled by Wiedeman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Oberlin.
