Kenneth G. McClain, Jr., 85, of Harrisburg, passed away at home with family at his side on Tuesday, July 2, 2024. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Kenneth G. McClain, Sr. and Katherine J. (nee Hetzel), McClain, Verna, Canellis. He was the loving husband of Lorraine (nee Maurer) McClain, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.
Ken was a man of many interests, talents, and skills. He was a draftsman by trade and worked for Allied Stores in New York City before moving to York, PA, where he became the Director of Store Planning at S. Grumbacher and Sons (Bon-Ton). He was an artist at heart and was skilled in many mediums including oils, watercolor, decoupage, and stained glass. You could find Ken in his den pressing flowers, making his own paper, or building bird houses. He loved creating his own art postcards and kept a large collection of his work. He was a member of the York Postcard Club and the Lancaster Postcard Club. Ken was a railroad enthusiast; he designed and built his own model railroad and enlisted the help of his daughters and granddaughter in the effort over the years. He also loved nature, including gardening, bird watching, and canoeing.
In addition to his wife, Ken is survived by his daughters Michelle Osman (Joe Camut, Jr.) and Jennifer McClain-Miller (Blake Miller); his granddaughter Elaine McClain; his brother James Verna (Karen Verna); and sister JoAnn Verna. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Nancy Verna and step-fathers Joseph Verna and John Canellis.
A Visitation will be held at Wiedeman Funeral Home, 357 S Harrisburg Street, Oberlin, PA 17113 on Saturday, July 13, 2024 from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM, with a Time for Sharing following at 12:00 PM.
