Lawrence Cahill of Harrisburg, PA passed away peacefully on January 21, 2025 at the ripe young age of 88.
He was born in Saugerties, NY at precisely 8:47 am on June 28, 1936. We say precisely because he was a man of exacting detail.
He attended what is now The Cahill Elementary School, named in honor of is his father who was a long-time teacher, coach and principal. His mother and all three sisters were also teachers so you can rest assured he did well in school. He received a perfect score in math on the New York State Regents and graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1958 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He promptly received a job offer from AMP incorporated in Harrisburg and it was the only professional employer he had before retiring from there in 1996.
In 1960, Larry met a young beauty named Rosemary Leedy on the way to a Kingston Trio Concert. They married 6 months later and remained happily so for 64 years.
He enjoyed Penn State football, photography and making sure his watch was perfectly synchronized with the atomic clock in Colorado. He served in the National Guard, volunteered at St. Margaret Mary’s, and worked in the pit crew for a national championship sports car team.
Larry always did the right thing, led by example, and cut exactly zero corners in his time on this planet. He treated every single person with respect and dignity, no matter their race, religion, income, or intellectual ability.
Larry Cahill is predeceased by his parents, Lawrence and Grace Cahill, and sister, Betty Strong. He is survived by his beloved wife Rosemary (Leedy) and his sisters Anne Cahill and Eileen Cowley. He was an incredible father to Dan Cahill (Jen), Johanna Naama (Salim), Peggy McCafferty (Vince) and Andrew Cahill (Mimi). Most importantly he was the one and only “Papa” to grandchildren Yasmine, Lindy, Anna, Ellie, Grace, Ben, Caroline, Maggie, Rose, and Steven.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at 11:00 am at St. Margaret Mary Alacoque Roman Catholic Church, 2800 Paxton Church Road, with Rev.
