Mary K. Swartz

Mary K. (Burger) Swartz, 76, of Harrisburg, passed away at home surrounded by family on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. Born in Oswego, NY, she was the daughter of the late James and Laura (Smith) Burger. She was the loving wife of Earl E. Swartz, with whom she shared 41 years of marriage.

Mary was a devoted Catholic and an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church. She volunteered much of her time with the church and taught CCD, led in reciting the rosary, and served as a eucharistic minister to the sick. She was also a member of American Legion Post 998 in Lawnton.

In addition to her husband, Mary is survived by her children Mary Smith and her companion Terry Hayes, Richard Smith and his wife Sara, and Earl Swartz, Jr.; her stepchildren Laura Painter, Tonya Bernhard and her husband Ronald, and Monica Kunselman; her siblings Loretta Allen and her husband Tim, Johnny Burger and his wife Sharon, Richard Burger and his wife Julie, and Tina Flacke and her husband Steven; as well as 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother James Burger and sister Frances Broadwell.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 in St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, 1439 Market Street, Harrisburg, PA 17103, with Rev. Aaron Lynch, Parochial Vicar, celebrating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. A Visitation will be held in the church prior to service from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM.
