Michael Lavia

Michael A. LaVia, 72, of Mechanicsburg and formerly of Chambers Hill, Swatara Twp., died Friday, August 4, 2023 in his home.

He was a US Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam War; retired Director of Information Technology for Harsco Steel Corp., Harrisburg; and a member of St. Catherine Laboure Roman Catholic Church, Swatara Twp. He was a former Scout Master for Troop 95, Enhaut.

Mike was the son of the late Robert and Josephine Petrarca LaVia and is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Leslie Newcomer LaVia; two sons, Kevin M. LaVia (Justine), Newport and Andrew R. LaVia and his wife, Danielle of Aurora, CO; one daughter, Melanie L. Stine and her husband, Mark of Mechanicsburg; two brothers, Robert P. LaVia and his wife, Pamela of Swatara Twp. and William K. LaVia and his wife, Beverly of Harrisburg; three grandchildren, Alessandra, Santino, and Sienna; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial Services will be held on Friday, August 11, 2023 at 11:00 am in Wiedeman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 357 S. Harrisburg St., Oberlin with Rev. Jerome A. Kleponis, Parochial Vicar of St.Catherine Laboure Parish, officiating. Private inurnment will be held at the convenience of the family in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. A public visitation will be held on Friday from 10:00 am until 11:00 am in the funeral home.
