Michael J. Smith

After a long, courageous battle with cancer, Michael J Smith “Mike” of Steelton found well deserved peace in the arms of our Good Shepherd, the Lord Jesus Christ. Mike, who considered himself to be “The Unlikely Disciple”, transitioned on December 25 at the age of 81. Mike was the son of the late Evelyn and John Smith, and was predeceased in death by his sister, Virginia L Smith, of Steelton.

Mike was a master machinist, carpenter and truck driver and found great joy in the challenge of planning and executing inventions. He loved adventure and always followed the road less traveled on his trusty “scoot”, freely sharing his message of the gospel with everyone he encountered. He was always ready and willing to help his family, friends and neighbors.

He is survived by his sister, Sallie Acri (Jim) of Duncannon; mother of his children, Barbara Etnoyer, Middletown; daughter Kelly Smith Cumbler (Jose’) of Granada, Spain; son, Kevin Michael Smith of Peoria, Arizona; four grandchildren, Rylee, Bryce, Kole and Danica; Jaci Frantz (Greg) of Scottsdale Arizona; Krista Myers (Ryan), niece, of Duncannon; three grand nieces and nephews, Ryan, Nathan (Jessica) and Danielle; and four great grand nieces and nephews, Isabella, Adelaide, Nash, and Ellie.

He also leaves behind his beloved feline family—Chunk, Fluffy, and Little Bits.

A Celebration of Mike's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at Wiedeman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 357 S Harrisburg Street in Oberlin. A Visitation will take place 10:00-11:00 AM on Saturday in the funeral Home.
