Ralph E. “Pete” Hardy

Ralph Elwood “Pete” Hardy, 86, of Oberlin, passed away at UPMC Harrisburg Hospital on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. Born in Middletown, he was the son of the late Bruce F. and Margaret E. (Fronk) Hardy. He was the loving husband of Betty M. (Heffner) Fissel Hardy, the love of his life with whom he shared over 52 years of marriage.

Pete was an active member of Swatara Church of God. After many years as a Pennsylvania State employee, he retired in a management position from the Department of Health and Welfare. He served as a medic in the US Naval Reserves for 6 years. He was a Mason and loved hunting and fishing. 

In addition to his wife, Pete is survived by his children, Tammy Wilton of Virginia and Todd Hardy of Virginia; his stepdaughter Bonita Cullison and husband Stephen of Liverpool; his stepson Les Harvey and wife Bonnie of Harrisburg; his grandson James Steinmeier, Jr.; and his step-grandson Adam Cullison. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Liann Fazenbaker; his stepson, Dennis Fissel; his step-grandson Craig Cullison; his brothers John Dupes, Bruce Hardy, and Charles Hardy; and his sisters Shirley Johns, Mary E. Hardy, and Gloria Jean Reider.

A Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday, December 17 at 12:00 PM at Swatara Church of God, 4860 Lindle Road, Harrisburg, PA 17111, with Pastor Nancy Boyer officiating. Burial will follow at Churchville Cemetery, Oberlin. A Viewing will be held in the church prior to service from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Swatara Church of God at the address above.
