Richard “Dick” L. Evans, 80, formerly of Steelton, passed away at home surrounded by family on Monday, March 4, 2024. Born in Steelton, he was the son of the late Roy and Vivian (Gardner) Evans. He was the loving husband of Ruth (Hinkel) Evans for the past 59 years.
Dick retired from AMP, Inc. after 34 years in the Return Material Customer Service Department, then retired again from Patriot News after 16 years. He then worked in Hershey Park’s employee cafeteria for several years. He was an active member of Centenary UMC Church and a former President of the Steelton Lions Club.
He was a Civil War buff and enjoyed taking his family on trips to visit the Gettysburg battlefields. He was also a diehard Rollers sports fan. Most of all, he was his grandchildren’s #1 fan and would attend all their events.
In addition to his wife, Dick is survived by his children Staci Lang, of Gaithersburg, MD, and James Evans and wife Alicia, of Hummelstown; his grandchildren Caitlin Evans, Leah Williams and husband Scotty, Kendrick Lang (Emily), Bryce Evans, and Kai Lang; and his great-grandchildren Myles, Kyra, Ezra, and Eden Williams; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers Leroy and Bernard Evans; his sister Muriel Reynolds; and his beloved pets Foxy, Cleo, and Rachel.
A Memorial Service will be held at Centenary United Methodist Church, 1010 Orchard Drive, Oberlin on Friday, March 8, 2024 at Noon with Rev. Denise Haskins officiating; visitation also at the church starts at 10:30 before the service. Burial will take place at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville immediately following the service.
