Sarah Blanding

Sarah L. (Hyman) Blanding, daughter of the late Hattie (Smith) Hyman and Isaiah Hyman Sr. was born April 13, 1924 in Steelton, Pennsylvania. God sent his angels to escort Sarah to her heavenly home to join her parents and brother to find victory at the blessed age of 98.

Fondly and lovingly known as "Bunch" and Auntie by family and friends, Sarah was educated in the Steelton Public Schools, graduating from Steelton High School. After graduation, she began her career with the Federal Government working in Middletown,PA. Later she transferred to the Naval Depot in Mechanicsburg, PA. where she eventually retired as a computer specialist from EM50 Mechanicsburg, PA.

She was married to the late Alex "Boodie" Blanding. Although no children were born to this union, Sarah raised or took part in raising her nieces and nephews giving them ongoing support and advising them and their children. She maintained a dozier of phone numbers, addresses and many pictures of family members. Sarah always maintained an open door policy to her home for visits and many family gatherings. She loved her family and she loved the Lord. She was a member of St. Paul AME Church of Oberlin, PA. She loved her church family and served her church praising and working for the Lord as a member of the Missionary Society, and a former member of the Steward Board. She also was a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association.

Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brothers, Isaiah Hymon Jr. and James Hymon Sr. She leaves to honor and cherish precious memories, her sisters Willa Mae Crystal of Harrisburg, PA. and Julia L. Handy of Harrisburg, PA. And brother John A. Hymon Sr. of Miami Florida. "All My Children" her nieces and nephews. Her cousins, in-laws, many friends and church family.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at 11:00 am in Wiedeman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 357 South Harrisburg Street, Oberlin, with Rev. Miriam "Mim" Roberts-Harvey, Officiating. Burial at the conclusion of services will be in William Howard Day Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Thursday from 10:00 am - 11:00 am in the funeral home.
