Susan Jane (Carroll) Wright, 70, of Harrisburg, passed away surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, January 20, 2024. Born in Harrisburg, she was the daughter of the late Elaine Pearl (Keiser) Carroll. She was the loving wife of Charles Richard Wright, with whom she shared 47 years of marriage.
Susan graduated from Central Dauphin East High School with the class of 1971. She went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree from Shippensburg University and then a Master’s from Millersville University. She returned to teach Reading at Swatara Middle School, where she met her husband, Charles. She taught from 1975 until her retirement in 2008. She was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the American Businesswomen’s Association. She was very generous with her time and supported the Special Olympics and the Capital Area Therapeutic Riding Association.
Susan enjoyed crafts, travelling, spending time with her cats and having friends and family over at her pool. She always loved attending musicals and shows, especially those which her son Will participated in. Most of all, she cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and was known as the “Snack Lady” when she attended all of their activities.
In addition to her husband, Susan is survived by her daughter, Amanda E. Stettler and her husband, James; her son, William C. Wright; and her grandchildren, Abby Stettler, Jase Stettler, and Jackson Stettler; as well as a large extended family that includes cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A Visitation will take place at Wiedeman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 357 S Harrisburg Street, Oberlin, PA 17113, on Friday, January 26, 2024 from 5:00-7:00 PM. A second Visitation will take place at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 3700 Rutherford Street, Harrisburg, PA 17111 on Saturday, January 27, 2024 from 10:00-11:00 AM. A Memorial Service will follow at the church at 11:00 AM with Rev. Kathleen J. Baker, STM, Pastor, Officiating.
