Walter Russell "Bud" Brown

Walter Russell “Bud” Brown, 77, of Harrisburg, passed away surrounded by family on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at UPMC Community Osteopathic Hospital. Born in Harrisburg on August 1, 1947, he was the son of the late Walter C. and Florence M. (Killian) Brown. He was the loving husband of Yvonne A. (Gruich) Brown, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage.

Bud graduated from Central Dauphin High School in the class of 1965. He went on to serve his country in the United State Marines Corps through 2 tours in Vietnam, attaining the rank of Corporal. He then served in the Army National Guard for 25 years. During his career, he received several army commendation medals for sustaining superior performance.

Bud’s devotion to the military carried throughout his life. He volunteered with the VA Hospital in Lebanon, PA. He was lifetime member of VFW post 1718 in Penbrook. He worked as a Diesel Mechanic for Fort Indiantown Gap for over 20 years until his retirement. In his spare time, he was an avid Philadelphia sports fan- especially the Phillies and the Eagles.

In addition to his wife, Bud is survived by his daughters Tara Lynn Zinn and her husband Ted, and Nicole Brown; his grandchildren Jesi, Theodore, Jr., Charles, and Alissa; and his sister, Ruth Hendricks.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at Wiedeman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 357 S Harrisburg Street, Oberlin, PA 17113. Burial will follow at Churchville Cemetery with full military honors. A Viewing will take place in the funeral home prior to service from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM.
