Francis Mikula

Harrisburg, PA - Francis (Frank-Spade) Mikula, 87, passed away unexpectedly on Christmas night at his home.

He was born in Philadelphia, PA on May 22, 1931, the middle child of the late Mary (Hudak) and George Mikula. He was married to the late Nancy Jean Sellers on March 16, 1957.

He was last employed at Xpedx, formerly Harrisburg Paper Company, as a Delivery Route Coordinator. He worked there for 30+ years and retired. He also worked at the former BBQ Cottage on River Road-Front St., Harrisburg and their second site in Colonial Park, across from the mall, as a bartender and manager for many years.

He served in the US Army as a cook. Upon his discharge, he was ranked as a Corporal.

Frank took pride in his lawn and hanging baskets. He enjoyed working on car engines-before they had computer components. He enjoyed watching football of all levels-pro, college, high school, and youth midget, much to his daughter Michele's dismay. He loved cooking on the holidays-large quantities. He enjoyed visits from his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a very humble and quiet man with a quick wit, who loved his family deeply. After his wife Nancy's passing, he was the primary caretaker of their youngest daughter, who has Downs Syndrome.

He is survived by four children - MaryAnn Kraynak, Paula (Richard) Smith, David (Kelly) Mikula, and Michele Mikula. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Raymond (Stephanie) Kraynak, Joanna (Austin) Kraynak-Appel and Michael Kraynak, Terri (William) Scharff, Shelbi Smith, David Mikula, Jessica (Thomas) Wenrich, Andrea Mikula, Victoria Mikula and Scott Mikula; and 4 great grandchildren, Stella Appel, William and Rylin Scharff and Brooks Wenrich; and step grandson, Brian Smith; and 3 step great grandchildren, Bailey, Noah and Lillian Smith.

He is also survived by his brother, Bernard Mikula, sister-in-law, Corrine Sellers, and brother-in-law, Kenneth Sellers, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Jean, who passed just 1 1/2 months before their 50th Wedding Anniversary. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Mary and George; sister, Delores Appleby; sisters-in-law, Margaret Leader, Doris Prang, Shirl Simmons; Lois Sellers (infant); and brothers-in-law, Richard and Robert Sellers.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 4, 2019 at 11:00 am in Wiedeman Funeral Home and Cremation Services-HARRISBURG, 2253 Derry St., Harrisburg with Rev. Michael D. Metzger, Parochial Vicar of Holy Name of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. A viewing will be held in the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 am until 11:00 am.
