Ann DeVaric Nicotera, 95, of Steelton, PA entered into eternal rest on September 2, 2019 at Frey Village, Middletown. Born in Steelton on November 20, 1923, Ann is survived by her sons Douglas (Susan), Hummelstown, Mark (Rose), Mechanicsburg, and Gregory (Nancy), Holland PA. In addition, Ann is survived by her grandchildren, Eva Nicotera, David Nicotera, Carla Miller (James), Angela Beard (Anthony), seven great-grandchildren and thirteen nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest T. Nicotera in 2016; parents Joseph and Mary (Smollis) DeVaric; and siblings Louis and Erma DeVaric.
Ann is a graduate of Steelton High School, class of 1941. She worked at Penn National Insurance Company, Harrisburg and the Steelton branch of Dauphin Deposit Trust.
Ann was a life-long member of St. James and Prince of Peace Roman Catholic Parishes in Steelton and volunteered in a number of service roles at the church, including lector, Eucharistic Minister, and volunteer to the church’s Meals on Wheels program with her husband, Ernie.
She also served as librarian at St. James School and Bishop Neumann School and volunteered at the school office at Prince of Peace School. She served several terms on the Bishop McDevitt High School Board and was president of the Bishop McDevitt Music Association. Mrs. Nicotera also served as a Girl Scout leader in Steelton for many years.
She was an avid reader and volunteered with a local reading program to help increase literacy among adults in the community. Together with her husband, Ann enjoyed taking trips with church friends in the Merry Ann Club and with friends through Steelton Rotary Club, where her husband was once president. Most of all, Ann enjoyed spending time with her beloved family.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2019 from 9:00 am - 10:00 am in Prince of Peace - Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church,815 South Second Street, Steelton. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am in the church, with the Very Rev. David L. Danneker, V.G., Pastor as celebrant. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Arrangements by Wiedeman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Steelton.
