Obituary of Franklin Cackovic

PLEASE NOTE:

DUE TO IMPENDING INCLEMENT WEATHER PREDICTED FOR WEDNESDAY, THE VIEWING FOR FRANKLIN L. CACKOVIC HAS BEEN MOVED TO THE ADORATION CHAPEL OF ST. CATHERINE LABOURE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 4000 DERRY STREEET, HARRISBURG. THE VIEWING WILL BE HELD FROM 8:30 AM - 10:45 AM IN THE CHAPEL.

Franklin L. Cackovic, 81, of Swatara Township, was welcomed into the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ, on the morning of Friday, February 2, 2018 in MS Hershey Medical Center. He was the son of the late Miko and Anna Grassa Cackovic. Frank was a devoted teacher and coach at Trinity High School, where he dedicated 44 years of service and leadership. Known by his students as "COBO" - a motivational acronym he created - Frank built a legacy emphasizing the "Challenge of Brotherly Opposition" - a lesson learned in competitive sport. Frank personified this motto each and every day. To him, striving for personal excellence and loving your opponent always go hand in hand.

Frank was a graduate of Steelton High School and St. Francis Preparatory. He received his degree from North Carolina State College, where he was a quarterback on the NC State football team. Frank motivated his teammates to the same level of excellence and success as his future students.

As a member of St. Catherine Laboure Roman Catholic Church, Frank spent great time in personal devotion and worshipping the Lord at Mass. For Frank, these were moments of tremendous joy and strength.

Frank's selflessness as a husband, father, and grandfather brought great pride and meaning to his life. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Patricia J. Coxe Cackovic, who he loved faithfully and selflessly. His three children, of whom his pride knew no bounds, also survive him: his daughter, Mariann Cackovic-Soto and husband Wesley of Lititz; his daughter, Maureen Schaedler and husband Thomas of Harrisburg; and his son, Dr. Michael Cackovic and wife Barbara of New Albany, Ohio. Frank is survived by his 12 grandchildren, Mikaela and husband, Colton, Vincent, Macaulay and Damian; Hannah, Connor, Paige, and Riley; Allison, Emma, Nathan, and Claire. "POP POP" will forever be their biggest fan and greatest cheerleader, a steadfast presence and an endless inspiration.

To all who knew him, Frank was generous and filled with joy of the Lord. He was quick to encourage, gentle and honest, and he continually lit up the room by praising others. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and daily rejoicing.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at 11:00 am in St. Catherine Laboure Roman Catholic Church, 4000 Derry St., Swatara Twp. with Very Rev. Neil S. Sullivan, VF, his Pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Wednesday from 8:30 am until 10:30 am in Wiedeman Funeral Home, 357 S. Second St., Steelton.

Frank's family would like to welcome memories of "COBO" from any and all who have felt his great impact to be opened by the family on Easter. These can be mailed to Wiedeman Funeral Home, ATTN: MEMORIES OF "COBO", 357 S. Second St., Steelton, PA 17113.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity High School, 3601 Simpson Ferry Rd., Camp Hill, PA 17011.
