Obituary of Jose Cruz Rivera
Jose Luis Cruz Rivera, 74, of Harrisburg, passed away Saturday May 5, 2018, in his home.
He was born in Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico on July 30, 1943 to the late Valentin Cruz and Catalina Rivera. Jose worked for and retired from the Crowne Plaza in Harrisburg as a chef. He was married to the former Linda C. Shirley, until her passing on July 8, 2016. He and his wife enjoyed traveling, and spending time with their friends and family. Jose’s passion was baseball. He played and coached for many years, and was an avid New York Yankees fan. Affectionately known as Guiso, the big guy with a big heart to so many. An afternoon spent with Pappy was full of jokes and laughs.
He is survived by three children, Antonio Cruz Santiago (Calmen) of Puerto Rico, Betsy Cruz Rivera (Juan Manuel) of Puerto Rico; and Danny G. Shirley (Michelle) of Etters; six grandchildren, David Rosado Cruz, Maria Rosado Cruz, Miguel Cruz Davila, Carlos Cruz Davila, Mikayla Shirley, and Danny Shirley Jr.; three brothers, Raul Cruz Rivera of New York, Valentin Cruz Rivera (Gladi) of Puerto Rico, and Antonio Cruz Rivera (Milagro) of Harrisburg; and sister-in-law, Donna Shirley of Steelton. Jose is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and one special nephew, Jorge Gonzalez of Harrisburg, whom he was very close to.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, May 14, 2018 at 11:00 am in Wiedeman Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 357 So. Second St., Steelton, PA 17113. Burial will be held in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Lower Paxton Twp. A viewing will be held on Monday from 10:00 am until 11:00 am in the funeral home.
