Obituary of Laurence Salinger
Laurence James "Buddy" Salinger, 86, of Oberlin, died Wednesday, July 18, 2018 in UPMC Pinnacle - Community Osteopathic Hospital.
He was a graduate of Harrisburg Catholic High School, Class of 1949, member of Prince of Peace Roman Catholic Parish and a Life Member of the former Steelton Moose Lodge 382 with 63 years of faithful service, where he received a Fellowship Degree as well as the Highest Honor in the Moose, the Pilgrim Degree of Merit. Buddy successfully sponsored 1,676 Members in the Steelton Moose Lodge. He was a member of the American Legion Post 420, Steelton for 62 years. He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War.
Buddy was also a Life Member of the Fifth Ward Republican Club - Steelton; a member of the former West Side Fire Department and a Life Member of the Steelton Fire Department. He was a member of the former St. James Roman Catholic Church, where he Coached Boys Basketball for 20 years. He also coached Boys Baseball for the Moose and he played Softball for the Moose for many years. Laurence and Pat fostered the Adams Family from Appalachia, Kentucky for 28 years.
Laurence is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Patricia M. Lebo Salinger; three sons, Dale R. Martin (Larrine), Harrisburg, Don Reno Martin, Oberlin; Charles Scott Mullins, Sr., Oberlin; two grandchildren, Nathan Allen Martin, Oberlin; Charles Scott Mullins Jr.,Oberlin; one brother, Frank Salinger (Jackie), Steelton; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Laurence J. Salinger and Pauline Rousher Salinger; two brothers, Harry Salinger and James Salinger; two Sisters, Edith Nebinger and Donna Shearn.
Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at 8:30 pm in the Wiedeman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 357 South Second Street, Steelton, with Deacon Michael A. Grella, Officiating. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm in the funeral home. The Moose Honorary Service will be held on Thursday at 8:15 pm. Burial will be on Friday, July 27, 2018 at 10:30 am in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Indiantown Gap Road, Annville. Family and friends are welcome to meet at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery no later than 10:15 am in the Funeral Arrival Area of the Cemetery.
