Obituary of Rose Placey
Rose Teresa Sawyer Placey, 88, of Camp Hill, died Sunday, September 16, 2018 in her family home of 55 years.
She was a 1948 graduate of Bishop McDevitt High School (Harrisburg Catholic), a cum laude graduate of College Misericordia, Dallas, PA with a Bachelors Degree in
English, Sociology, and Secondary Education with a History minor. She also attended the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Social Work.
A former Sophomore Boys' English Teacher and Debate Judge at Trinity High School 1969-70, she had previously served as a Guidance Counselor at Durfee High School in Fall River, MA, and later became the co-owner of Purdy and Placey Specialty Travel.
Rose was a member of Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church, Camp Hill, co-chairman of the Bishop McDevitt Reunion Committee, life member of Holy Spirit Hospital Auxiliary, charter member of the Seton Club, Nominating Chairman of the South Central PA Heart Assn., the Steering and Law Week Committee of the Dauphin Co. Bar Assn., receptionist at Ecumenical Food Bank, Good Shepherd Church Helping Hand Committee, Council of Catholic Women, Caring Team, Past School Board member and its Aramethians, American Lawyers Auxiliary, Eastern Travel Assn., Irish Tourist Board Shamrock Club, Scholarship Chairman for the PA Bar Foundation, and the Central PA Assn. of Women Executives.
Rose was the daughter of the late Thomas A. Sawyer, Sr. and Agnes B. McCullough Sawyer. She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Richard L. Placey, Esq.; her children, Richard Placey, Esq. and his wife Carol Swanson, Esq. of Medford, NJ, Roseanne Placey Sunajko and her husband, Michael of Middletown, PA., Honorable Thomas Anthony Placey and his wife, Helene of Camp Hill, and Edward Sawyer Placey and his wife, Deborah of Southport, CT; grandchildren, Madeline Sawyer Placey and Caroline Graham Placey; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas A. Sawyer, Jr. and two sisters, Elizabeth Wildmann Ragolia and Agnes Sawyer Warwick.
Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at 11:00 am in Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church, 3435 Trindle Rd., Camp Hill, PA 17011 with Rev. Msgr. William J. King, JCD and Rev. Benedict Faneye, OP, as concelebrants. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Mechanicsburg. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 9:30 am until 11:00 am in her church. Arrangements are being handled by Wiedeman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Steelton.
