Obituary of Janet Berkanstock
Janet E. Stouffer Berkanstock, 79. It is with great sadness that the family of Janet Eleanor Berkanstock share her passing on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at Messiah Village, Asper Unit, Mechanicsburg. She was born June 15, 1939 at Harrisburg Hospital to her parents, The Honorable J. Richard Stouffer and Eleanor Travitz Stouffer of Steelton. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Richard J. Berkanstock. She is survived by her siblings, Carol Reider (George) of Connecticut, Richard Stouffer (Beth) of Dillsburg, Arthur Stouffer (Beatrice) of Texas, James Stouffer (Michelle) of South Carolina, and Deborah Lins (George) of Harrisburg; and a sister-in-law, Joan Colton (Joseph) of PA. She leaves 13 nieces and nephews and 19 great nieces and nephews to whom she was a loving and very special aunt.
She graduated from Steelton High School in 1957 as Valedictorian of her class. Prior to graduation, she began working for AMP, Inc. and retired as Executive Secretary to the President and CEO. She was highly regarded by all. Janet was a lifelong dedicated member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Steelton, where she served on the Council and participated in many activities including President of UM Women, Community Meals and Choir. Janet had a beautiful alto voice and sang many solos at plays, church, and weddings. She also organized and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. Janet was an organizer for AMP, her church and her family. She organized many family and holiday gatherings, as well as family summer vacations. She was a very special person, who will be sadly missed.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at 11:00 am in Centenary United Methodist Church, Steelton with Rev. Brent A. Stouffer, her nephew and Pastor of Marion United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 10:00 am until 11:00 am in her church. Arrangements are being handled by Wiedeman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Steelton.
