Obituary of Theresa La Torre
Theresa LaTorre, 80, of Hummelstown, passed February 16, 2019 after a lengthy illness - but she didn’t go quietly. Quick with a joke or a story, she always made her family and friends laugh. Though she had no children of her own, Theresa was truly a second mother to her nieces, nephews, grand nephews and grand niece. She was the aunt who laughed when we would cause trouble and always let us watch anything on TV. There are many stories of her assisting us in our childhood and teenage schemes, but we’re sworn to secrecy.
Theresa was born in Taranto, Italy, to the late Gustavo and Carmela LaTorre on December 2, 1938. She came to the United States in 1945, and settled in Harrisburg, where she graduated from Harrisburg Catholic High School in 1958. Theresa would go on to be a dedicated employee of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Penn National Insurance for decades before retiring and living a life of leisure with her family and pets.
She is preceded in death by her “baby brother", Fausto LaTorre.
Theresa is survived by her beloved sister and best friend, Anna Maria LaTorre Stranges; sister-in-law, Sally LaTorre; niece, Tania Stranges Graden and husband Ty; nephew, Nicholas Stranges and wife Amy; nephew David LaTorre and wife, Jessica Meyers; nephew, Frank Stranges and wife Ariane; and niece Caroline LaTorre. She is also survived by grand nephews Tommy Graden, Matthew Graden, Gus LaTorre and Nicholas Stranges, and grand niece, Stella LaTorre.
She would hate a fuss being made, but Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 11:00 am in Wiedeman Funeral Home and Cremation Services-HARRISBURG, 2253 Derry St., Harrisburg with Rev. Ted Keating, her Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 10:00 until 11:00 am in the funeral home.
The family thanks the nurses and staff of Penn State Health Dialysis Team of Hershey Medical Center for their outstanding care, attention and support of Theresa throughout her care there.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to the American Diabetes Assn., 150 Monument Rd., Suite 100, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004 (www.diabetes.org) or Castaway Critters, PO Box 1421, Harrisburg, PA 17105 (www.castawaycritters.org)
